Book Launch Event – Ship Layup Guide
November 26, 2019
Setting a new benchmark on service quality for the shipping sector, the recently-launched book “Ship Layup Guide” provides a comprehensive guide on the industry’s best standards and practices on layup services. The book launching ceremony was held at the Hilton Hotel, Kota Kinabalu on Friday, 4th November 2019.
The first-ever guide book by front-runners in vessel layup services, International Shipcare (ISC) in collaboration with partners, Witherbys and Bimco, was launched in an official ceremony witnessed by State Assistant Infrastructure Development Minister, YB Datuk Haji Abdul Muis Bin Haji Picho and representative of Member of Parliament of Labuan, YB Datuk Rozman bin Datuk Haji Isli.
ISC Managing Director, Pravin Raina said “as the leading most-experience layup service provider in the world, the launching of this book is timely as it provides best guidelines, solutions and technical know-how to preserve any floating assets for the shipping and oil and gas sector”.
Meanwhile, YB Datuk Rozman expressed that “on a broader note, i foresee the need for players in the shipcare sector to unite and come under one umbrella, this is to ensure all players are able to set a uniformed standard of procedures and tariff and provide high quality services with the aid of suitable equipment and highly trained manpower”.
He also notes that “this will set the motion for Labuan and Brunei Bay to be the preferred location for vessel layups in the region. With such an umbrella body, he noted this will give more visibility to players voicing their concerns and recommendations to respective authorities whether in Labuan, Malaysia and internationally.
With well over 40 years being industry fore-runners of vessel layup services in the Brunei Bay, ISC provides employment for many Sabahan in this niche industry locataed at the Brunei Bay Layup Anchorage which provides the best layup location in the world, allowing 160 vessels to be laid up at any one time.
The anchorage provides a refuge for vessels, with good weather all year round, with excellent seabed condition and security support from local authorities, makes the Brunei Bay the preferred anchorage within Asia Pacific Region.
